Jim Adams brings over 35 years of aerospace expertise, having played a key role in over 30 spaceflight missions exploring Earth, the Sun, and much of the Solar System. Recently retired as NASA’s Deputy Chief Technologist, Jim continues to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with new generations. A gifted storyteller, he captivates audiences by blending science with imagination, encouraging emerging scientists and entrepreneurs to think outside the box and pursue groundbreaking innovations. Space Forum Africa 2026 — Advancing Space Innovation in Africa
Lomé, Togo | July 28–30, 2026
Jim Adams, NASA veteran and former senior NASA leader, joined Space Forum Africa 2026 in Lomé, Togo, as part of the U.S. Department of State’s speaker program.

Bringing more than four decades of experience in space exploration and technology, Adams shared insights into how space capabilities can support agriculture, climate resilience, communications, and disaster management, while creating new opportunities for collaboration between African institutions and U.S. space companies.
​
The forum brought together African leaders, researchers, innovators, and investors to explore how space can drive economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development across the continent.

Meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius

During his visit to Mauritius as part of the U.S. State Department’s Freedom250: Artemis and U.S. Leadership in Space Innovation speaker program, Jim Adams, former NASA Deputy Chief Technologist, met with Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

Their discussions focused on the Artemis Accords and Mauritius’ potential role in shaping the future of lunar exploration and responsible space activities.
​
Adams also highlighted how satellite technology can deliver practical benefits on Earth, including improving understanding of fisheries, climate change, and cyclone tracking, while strengthening Mauritius’ connections with the global space community.
Katara Space Science Program (KSSP)
Jim Adams collaborated with Katara Cultural Village Foundation to promote space science education and international cooperation. This initiative aimed to inspire curiosity about space exploration and foster global partnerships in advancing space technology and education.
Space Tour South Africa 2025
The 2025 Space Tour presents a unique opportunity to engage South Africans in space science and astronomy through a series of lectures, seminars, and public engagements. This initiative will feature Jim Adams, former Deputy Chief Technologist at NASA, and Dr. Jim Green, NASA’s longest-serving Planetary Science Division Director, alongside Anelda Jonker and Steve Sherman, two renowned South African STEM specialists.
