About Space Tour South Africa
The 2025 Space Tour presents a unique opportunity to engage South Africans in space science and astronomy through a series of lectures, seminars, and public engagements. This initiative will feature Jim Adams, former Deputy Chief Technologist at NASA, and Dr. Jim Green, NASA’s longest-serving Planetary Science Division Director, alongside Anelda Jonker and Steve Sherman, two renowned South African STEM specialists.
The tour will coincide with the first African Lunar Symposium in Pretoria and span multiple locations, including Cape Town, Sutherland, Carnarvon, and Bloemfontein. Together, we aim to inspire students, educators, and communities, highlighting South Africa’s vital role in global space science.
Expert Team
Jim Adams
Jim Adams is The NASA Deputy Chief Technologist (Retired) with a passion for promoting international space science collaboration. Since his first visit to South Africa in 2013, he has visited 23 times, advocating for projects such as the placement of the ATLAS telescope and engaging in public outreach programs, including radio appearances and seminars.

Dr. Jim Green
Dr. Green, The Chief Scientist (Retired) with a 42-year career at NASA, has been instrumental in advancing planetary science missions and the Near Earth Object program. Asteroid 25913 was named in his honor in recognition of his contributions. Since retiring in 2022, he has focused on teaching planetary science in person and through the Metaverse.
Anelda Jonker
Anelda Jonker is the Regional Director of the IPMA Kids Programme in South Africa and Founder of SA STEM Educators. With 20+ years of experience in teaching and training, she is deeply committed to STEM education and inspiring young minds to explore, discover and invent their own futures. She believes in equipping students with the tools to think critically, solve problems and even become young project managers from an early age - fostering a mindset of innovation and leadership.

Steve Sherman
Steve Sherman is a globally recognized STEM outreach specialist and Chief Imagination Officer of Living Maths. Known for his dynamic and engaging teaching methods, Steve has worked with students and educators across the globe, delivering interactive sessions on robotics, coding, and STEM innovation. His unique approach combines humor and creativity, making science and technology accessible and exciting.
